Chromalition (2020)

Chromalition is a Jet-Set-Radio inspired 3D action platformer. Skate around the city as a graffiti artist and fight against the lifeless art pushed onto the people by the corporate overlords.

Out now on Steam!

My role:

  • Gameplay programming for movement and animations

  • Audio programming using Wwise

Core Features

Player Movement and Traversal

I don’t know about you, but I love flowy movement. I built and tuned the primary movement settings for Chromalition and built a bunch of the movement mechanics.

Rail Grinding

  • Implemented with momentum carry-over when you jump off

  • Aligning player to rails

  • Smooth entry/exit

  • Bi-directional movement

General Gameplay Programming

  • Input management with gameplay state.

  • Smooth animation state transitions, chaining and input buffering.

  • Double jumps. I love double jumps.

  • “Toon time” for platforms: a bit of extra time between jumping off the edge of a platform and falling, to make sure movement isn’t interrupted .

Audio Programming and Implementation using Wwise

I was the primary implementer for all audio in Chromalition: BGM, SFX, filters and mixing. The most impactful thing I added was a low-pass filter to the audio mix when players enter their “splat” form.

This muffled all the sounds in the mix while in that state, which created a bit of quiet in the fast-paced chaos of the game.
